Clients will be accompanied through the Rainforest by one of our qualified Guides who will give a brief history of the Falls themselves as well as detailing the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife and other points of interest. The Victoria Falls constitutes one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world. The Local people call it “Mosi-oa-Tunya” — the smoke that thunders and the Falls are remarkable. There is a magic about them manifested in the towering column of spray when the river is high, the thunder of the falling water, the terrifying abyss and tranquil lagoons upstream in which hippo and deadly crocodiles lurk. The Victoria Falls is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. It drops between 90m and 107m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic metres of water plummet over the edge every minute. Remarkably preserved in its natural state, Victoria Falls inspires visitors as much today as it did David Livingstone in the 1860’s. The falls and the surrounding area have been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site, thus preserving the area from excessive commercialisation.
The Lookout Café is perched 120m above the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River, overhanging a giant chasm of the Batoka Gorge, just downriver of the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge, which forms part of its spectacular backdrop. The semi open-air café, apart from offering undoubtedly the best view in Victoria Falls, offers a range of refreshing beverages as well as a lively cocktail menu. The location of the café is at the current Wild Horizons high-wire facility, “The Lookout”, where the famed high-wire attractions such as the Gorge Swing, Flying Fox, and Vic Falls Canopy Tour are operated from. The Lookout Café is the ideal spot for lunches in combination with a tour of the Falls or a high wire activity.
The group will have the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Included Meals: breakfast, lunch
Ziplining: Experience the adrenalin rush traveling a speed of 106 km’s hurtling 425m across the gorge, while suspended 120m above the breath taking beauty of the Zambezi water below! As the river zigzags down the Batoka Gorges, our cable is suspended across from one side to the other. For this product you are harnessed and attached to a pulley, then launched over the edge picking up speed as you descend over the water and reaching a speed of 106 km an hour. This activity is totally safe for children of all ages. Smaller children are harnessed with their parent/guardian and can enjoy high wire.
Chinotimba Township Tour: The local Nambya language uses the word Chinotimba to describe the thunder of the Victoria Falls. The Nambya and the Tonga people are the original people of the Victoria Falls area. The Chinotimba township is home to the majority of people in Victoria Falls, which has a population of approximately 60 000 people.
During the Township Tour, guests will have an opportunity to witness the way of life in the township – from the houses to the taverns, the local market and churches. Guests visit the Chinotimba Primary School where they are introduced to the school headmaster – he or someone assigned will take the guests on a tour of the school after which the children may sing a song.
