The bustling port city of Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is one of the jewels in the Adriatic crown. Dotted with cafes, restaurants and galleries, its history and atmosphere make it one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, with many using it as a base from which to explore the myriad idyllic islands located off the coastline. While wandering through the historic center of Split, you will notice the Roman walls, squares and temples. Because of its ideal climate, with 2,800 hours of sunlight per year, locals have other names for Split:” The most beautiful city in the world” and “Mediterranean flower”.

A hydrofoil ferry takes you to the neighboring island of Hvar. Beautiful Hvar has an air of Venice about it and is known as the ‘Queen of the Dalmatian Islands’. Upon arrival, get to know the town with an orientation walk and perhaps visit the 16th century Spanjola Fortress, from where spectacular views over town and this part of the Adriatic can be had. Feel the history when wandering the backstreets of quirky galleries and unique boutiques, watch the fishermen bring the day’s catch into the quay, and chill out over a few cocktails in a waterside bar.

Hvar is the chic capital of a paradisiacal island in Croatia’s Dalmatian region. In the town are white-stoned Venetian renaissance buildings full of precious artworks, and you can potter around Hvar’s galleries, boutiques and cafes or stare open-mouthed at the gleaming super-yachts moored in the harbor.
